The bicycle ministry began about 2 years ago as a result of numerous clients who needed transportation. Many clients do not have the ability to drive or cannot afford an automobile. Initially, several sources were identified for used bicycles, including the Brevard County Sheriff's Farm, yard sales, church drives, and individual donations. We also found that many people have bicycle parts that they are not using.
At the same time, we found that there were volunteers who enjoyed assembling and repairing bicycles to create useful transportation.
What began as an identified need resulted in the distribution of more than 600 bicycles in 2011. The program allows for a person to receive no more than one bicycle per year, and they are encouraged to return the bicycle when it is no longer needed.
All bicycles have a numbered House of Hope tag that is assigned to the client.
Donations of bicycles and bicycle parts may be made on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week, from 8 am until 2 pm.
